Welcome to the second electronically distributed issue of IYM Software Review!
Published monthly since November 1989, IYMSR is devoted to providing practical,
useful information about applications and utilities software. No benchmark
tests timed to thousandth-of-a-second accuracy, no overblown and under-helpful
full page graphics, just real information: how long will it take to learn it?
how much disk space does it take up? what does it do to the rest of my system?
how much RAM do I REALLY need to run it?
We're very proud to provide this service to you through this bulletin board,
and we hope you'll find it as useful as the six thousand loyal print media
subscribers are always telling us it is.
At this time, we provide IYMSR as a series of full page WordPerfect files. To
help you view the files exactly as they appear in the printed version, we've
enclosed a customized printer driver - IYMSR.PRS. Designate it as your current
printer driver in WordPerfect 5.0 or later, and simply "print to screen";
that is, use the Shift-F7 combination, then choose option 6. IYMSR will pop up,
and you'll have the best and most current information about the world of
IBM-PC and compatible software before you, FREE. Nothing's left out.
If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please feel free to
address them directly to me, on this BBS, under the name Jeff Yablon. I'll
respond, IYMSR will respond, and after you read a few issues of our publication,
you'll be sure that when the time comes, YOU'LL be able to respond.
Don't have WordPerfect? Give a holler, and we'll try to work something out for
you!
Enjoy -
E. Jeffrey Yablon, Publisher 201-984-5733
Please note: if you are using WordPerfect 5.1, you'll need to convert the
supplied printer driver to that version's format. To do so, simply enter
the command "ptr/convert iymsr.prs" at the DOS prompt, with WordPerfect's
PTR.EXE printer manipulation file and IYMSR.PRS both in the directory from
which you issue the command, or indicated by you, manually. Because of
differences in the line and character spacing algorithms between 5.0 and 5.1,
you'll still not get a perfect match; most often, this will manifest itself as
printing all of the page on about 95% of the space. We apologize for this
inconvenience, and assure you that we're working with WordPerfect Corp. on a
solution. In the meantime, for a perfect match of what print subscribers see,
try to use version 5.0.
